As the British head to the polls, London’s Trafalgar Square has been evacuated by armed police today as claims emerged that a ‘suspicious item’ had been found.
As The Mail reports, the popular tourist destination in Central London was cordoned off while the nearby Charing Cross Tube station was also closed.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: ‘Specialist officers are in attendance and cordons are in place. As a precaution Charing Cross train station has been closed.’
